Nash Cabinets

Anthony Nash, a graduate of our 2003 Micro-Enterprise class, has been awarded a loan by the East Athens Development Corporation to help him expand his cabinetry business. Because of the planned growth of his business he realized that he needed additional work space and storage. Mr. Nash’s project includes preparation and site work needed, and the purchase of an 1,800 square foot metal building to be erected on his property. Once the project is completed, Mr. Nash will be able to save money and serve his customers better by storing wood and having adequate work space to complete his projects. This project will lead to the creation of a part-time job over the next six months.

Mr. Nash has over 15 years of experience as a cabinet maker and is proud of the quality of his work. He has over 60 customers with many repeat clients. The next time you visit the community room at EADC you can see a wood podium built by Mr. Nash. He can be reached at (706) 540-4002.

Tammie Foote

After years of dreaming of becoming a homeowner, Tammie Foote's dream came true. Tammie Foote wanted her children to grow up in a neighborhood environment similar to how she grew up. She knew there was a difference between the uncertainty of apartment living and the security of homeownership.

Tammie entered a homebuyer education workshop and learned there were steps that had to be taken in order to become a successful homeowner. She entered one-on-one pre-purchase counseling, set goals and worked on eliminating barriers that needed to be removed in order for her to become a first time homeowner.

In less than two years, Tammie increased her credit score and was approved for a mortgage loan with a very good interest rate. Ms. Foote not only became a first time homeowner, she also purchased EADC's first new home construction.

Martha

Martha narrowly avoided an overpriced house and loan "deal" offered by a broker. Unsure of the homebuying process, Martha sought advice from an EADC housing counselor.

Although she was anxious to purchase a home for her family, Martha decided to preceed cautiously in order to avoid a predatory loan, and to learn as much as she could before purchasing a home. After her counseling session, she decided to attend the Homebuyer's Club in 2006. She met individually with a housing counselor while she improved her credit.

Martha's patience and presistence paid off when she was accepted as an Athens Area Habitat for Humanity homebuyer in the spring of 2007.
